Counselors offer a wide spectrum of services. They are available to help students with personal problems, study skills, registration, class changes, testing, evaluation of test scores, evaluation of credits for graduation, career counseling, scholarship applications, employment counseling, educational planning, transcripts, progress reports, parent concerns, discipline problems and student-teacher or student-peer relationship problems.
Parents wishing to consult with their child’s counselor may do so by calling 257-2500. Students desiring to visit with a counselor should go to the counseling office. If the counselor is busy, the student should fill out a counselor appointment card, place it with the secretary, and return to class. The counselor will call the student out of class at the earliest convenience. Teachers are encouraged to involve counselors in dealing with students who are having academic and social problems in class. In making referrals to counselors, it is helpful if a note explaining the nature of the problem is giving to the counselor. The behavior management form may be used for this purpose. The Counseling Office will handle class schedule changes. A $15.00 class schedule change fee must be paid before changes are made. Class changes should be done within five days after the trimester begins. Any class changes made after the first five days must be initiated by an administrator, counselor, or teacher.
